About me
Hi! I am Gabriel Yip, a 2nd year Computer Science student at UNSW. I am from Hong Kong but decided to pursue my studies in Australia. Sydney is awesome (but expensive)!
I have been fascinated by coding from a very young age. When I was about 15, I started learning programming and built my first Minecraft plugin. It was a plugin that recreates some features/items in Hypixel Skyblock (Hyperion, F7 Dungeons if you are wondering). I posted showcase videos about it as well. The videos didn't get many views, but the experience sparked my interest in software development.
In high school, I joined a few competitive programming competitions. With some basic C++ knowledge, I was able to solve some interesting problems and win some prizes from various competitions.
While I was quite good at competitive programming, it never won my heart as much as when I joined my first CTF hosted by UNSW. The thrill of solving challenges with real world applications was unmatched. I got to apply my knowledge in software engineering while solving puzzles, which is so much fun to me. I ended up winning most of them. But most importantly, I got to learn more about cybersecurity and ethical hacking.
Outside of coding and CTFs, I like to cycle around Sydney and explore new cafes. It is a great way to wind down from all the stress and breathe in the fresh air.
